Agent Parcels to London: Making the Most of the £135 Rule

Updated · by The Joyagoo Spreadsheets desk

Quick answer

The UK is still the simplest large market for agent hauls. On consignments worth £135 or less there's no customs duty; 20% VAT is charged at the point of sale, so many shipping lines add it to your shipping bill and nothing is due at the door. Above £135, duty depends on the goods and VAT is usually collected on import, often with a courier handling fee. The government plans to remove the £135 relief, expected by October 2028 at the latest. Below: 8 finds and how to plan a London parcel.

The £135 limit is about the value of the goods in one consignment. For an agent haul, that means the items you put in one parcel. Staying under it keeps things simple; going over it means the parcel is assessed for duty and import VAT, and the courier usually asks you to pay before delivery.

Verdict: For London buyers, a parcel just under £135 of goods is the sweet spot. Above that, expect duty plus a handling fee.

The £135 relief is going away

GOV.UK has published plans to reform customs rules for low-value imports, with the relief expected to be repealed by October 2028 at the latest. Until then the current rules apply. If you're planning larger hauls over the next two years, the maths will get less favourable when the change arrives, so it's worth checking this page's date and the GOV.UK notice before a big order.

Which couriers bring agent parcels to London?

UK shipping lines usually fly parcels into the UK and hand them to a domestic carrier — Royal Mail, Evri, DPD or Yodel are common — or use an international courier door to door. What matters for you:

  • VAT-included lines charge the 20% VAT with shipping, so the courier shouldn't ask for more on a sub-£135 parcel.
  • Fee-to-pay cards: if a carrier leaves a card asking for customs charges, pay only through the carrier's official site or app, reached from its own address, not a link in a text message.
  • Flat numbers and buzzers: London flats often have shared entrances; add your flat number and a phone number so the driver can call.

UK sizes vs Chinese sizes

A Chinese L usually fits like a UK M. For shoes, Weidian sellers list EU sizes: an EU 42 is roughly a UK 7.5 and an EU 44 a UK 9. Half-size differences between brands are common, so compare the listing's chart in centimetres with something you own. Our size converter has the full tables.

What UK Border Force can hold

Border Force can detain goods that infringe a registered trademark, regardless of value. Paying VAT doesn't prevent that. Unbranded and small-label pieces aren't affected, and they're what we'd recommend for anyone unsure.

Which agents ship to London?

All the online agents we track ship to the UK, and most offer at least one VAT-included line. Check the line's description for "VAT included" or similar before paying.
